Job summary

TRC Companies, Inc. is seeking a Substation Engineer to perform design engineering for relay protection and control in substation projects across various sizes.

You will develop conceptual designs, cost estimates, and detailed drawings, coordinating with Civil, Networks, and Transmission teams. The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, strong communication, and an understanding of NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
• EIT certification strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standard.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Responsibilities

• Conceptual designs and execution plans.
• Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules.
• Physical substation design including yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary power systems, and BOMs.
• Protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring.
• Calculations for studies and reports (grounding, lighting protection, AC/DC load studies, etc.).
• Lead coordination of design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.).
• Develop and improve processes, tools and/or technology implementations.
• Assist in correspondence with clients or outside personnel.
• Provide short term field support during construction.
