Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Designer in Engineering Services to create detailed substation designs and prepare CAD drawings for projects across multiple locations, including Wesley Chapel, FL. You will support project leads and mentor junior staff while growing knowledge of SEL equipment for power system protection and automation.

Qualifications

• BSET or related design degree or equivalent experience.
• Four+ years of relevant high voltage electrical design experience.
• Experience in electrical utility, consulting, or system integration.
• Knowledge of protective relay applications and/or automation.
• Strong CAD drafting skills (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation).

Responsibilities

• Create detailed substation physical and electrical designs and assist in job estimates.
• Prepare CAD drawings and project documentation.
• Develop drawings including substation layouts, conduit, grounding, fencing, lighting, foundations, and BOMs.
• Provide design engineering support to project leads.
• Complete assigned work within timelines and budgets with high quality.
• Maintain knowledge of SEL equipment and industry design practices.
• Mentor junior designers/drafters on technical tasks.
• Learn SEL product concepts and industry practices.
• Suggest process improvements based on feedback.
