Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company seeks an on-site Substation Commissioning Manager for renewable energy projects. This is a 1-year W-2 contract with onsite location at a substation and per diem available.

You will lead commissioning, start-up, and operational turnover across wind, solar, and battery storage portfolios, reporting to the Project Manager/Commissioning Director. The role requires 6+ years in on-site project support for renewable generation, 3+ years with an EPC, and proven coordination

Qualifications

  • 6+ years on-site project support for renewable power generation construction start-up and commissioning.
  • 3+ years minimum experience working for an EPC in renewable power generation project construction start-up and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of NEC and NFPA.
  • SCADA integration and troubleshooting.
  • E&I controls installation, startup and troubleshooting.
  • Protection and controls implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to review drawings, conduct quality control inspections, and progress reporting.
  • Proficient with Outlook, PDF editing, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; document control systems.
  • Experience managing third parties, suppliers, and direct report team members.
  • Strong scheduling and planning understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure commissioning activities are performed with high quality and safety.
  • Coordinate and manage EPC contractor personnel, OEM start-up personnel, third‑party contractors, and operations staff on site.
  • Maintain reliability at operational turnover with minimal lost time.
  • Ensure compliance with project contractual documents including PPA and Large Generator Interconnect deliverables.
  • Coordinate with Transmission Operators and ISOs to meet energization dates.
  • Manage on-site commissioning personnel for the client.
  • Collaborate with safety, engineering, and quality control teams.

Opportunity Overview

Substation Commissioning Manager of Renewable Energy. This is a 1-year contract assignment (W-2). Location: We will provide the onsite location at substation. Per diem available.

To work on behalf of the project Owner as a Commissioning Manager on a portfolio of renewable energy (wind, solar, battery storage). You will be responsible for execution of assigned renewable power plant projects and teams as it relates to commissioning, start up and operational turnover.

Reports To: Project Manager / Commissioning Director

Your Day-to-Day
  • Ensure assigned projects' commissioning activities are performed with high quality and follow all safety policies.
  • Coordinate and manage EPC contractor personnel, OEM start up personnel, third‑party start up contractors, and operations personnel on site, as it relates to site commissioning and startup.
  • Ensure project reliability at operational turnover with plants exhibiting as little lost time in initial operation.
  • Ensure compliance with all project contractual documents to include Power Purchase Agreement and Large Generator Interconnect Agreement deliverables with local utility.
  • Ensure Transmission Operators and Independent Service Operators make the interface to ensure project energization dates are achieved.
  • Manage Client's onsite commissioning personnel.
  • Work with project's designated safety, engineering, and quality control parties.
Who You Are
  • Electrical construction and commissioning means and methods knowledge including NEC and NFPA.
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) integration and troubleshooting.
  • E&I controls and instrumentation installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Protection and Controls implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Review drawings quality control inspection and Progress reporting.
  • Outlook, PDF edit Word, Excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets), document control systems and PowerPoint.
  • Manage third parties and suppliers.
  • Manage direct report team members.
  • Schedule and planning understanding.
  • 6+ years of experience in on‑site project support for renewable power generation project construction start‑up and commissioning.
  • 3+ years minimum experience working for an EPC in renewable power generation project construction start‑up and commissioning.
  • Track record and ability to work with engineering personnel on technical issues.

Base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $55.00/hr to $60.00/hr.
