Opportunity Overview
Substation Commissioning Manager of Renewable Energy. This is a 1-year contract assignment (W-2) to work on behalf of the project Owner as a Commissioning Manager on a portfolio of renewable energy (wind, solar, battery storage). You will be responsible for execution of assigned renewable power plant projects and teams as it relates to commissioning, start-up, and operational turnover.
Reports To: Project Manager / Commissioning Director
Location: Onsite at the substation. Per diem available.
Your Day-to-Day
- Ensure that assigned projects' commissioning activities are performed with high quality and follow all safety policies.
- Coordinate and manage EPC contractor personnel, OEM start-up personnel, third-party start-up contractors, and operations personnel on site regarding site commissioning and startup.
- Ensure project reliability at operational turnover with plants exhibiting as little lost time in initial operation.
- Ensure compliance with all project contractual documents, including Power Purchase Agreement and Large Generator Interconnect Agreement deliverables with local utility.
- Ensure Transmission Operators and Independent Service Operators make the interface to achieve project energization dates.
- Manage client’s onsite commissioning personnel.
- Work with the project's designated safety, engineering, and quality control parties.
Who You Are
- Electrical construction and commissioning knowledge, including NEC and NFPA.
- Proficiency in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) integration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with E&I controls and instrumentation installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of protection and controls implementation and troubleshooting.
- Draw review quality control inspection and progress reporting.
- Ability to manage third parties and suppliers.
- Management experience with direct report team members.
- Understanding of schedule and planning.
Preferred Background
- 15+ years’ experience in on-site project support for renewable power generation project construction, startup, and commissioning.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working for an EPC in renewable power generation project construction, startup, and commissioning.
- Track record and ability to work with engineering personnel on technical issues.
- Experience working with construction personnel on constructability, schedule, and cost issues.

Base salary range: $74.00‑$79.00 per hour, dependent upon experience, qualifications, and skills.
