Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp is seeking an experienced field engineer to perform maintenance, construction, testing, and commissioning of substation equipment up to 500kV. The role involves extensive time outside the office at various substations and service centers across NJ.

The position requires a BS in Electrical/Civil/Mechanical Engineering, 3+ years of engineering experience, and strong communication skills. Travel and on-call responsibilities are part of the job, with a focus on safety and regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program required.
• PE license or FE certificate preferred; multiple acceptable degree paths noted.
• Minimum 3 years of engineering experience; strong design, maintenance or testing background.
• Experience with microprocessor-based protection and control equipment is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to lead by example.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace for coworkers and the community.
• Commission and test new transmission substation equipment.
• Develop check-out guides, review test results and isolation plans.
• Provide onsite technical support during preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Assist in developing maintenance practices and update technical programs.
• Audit maintenance paperwork and test results for regulatory completeness.
• Provide emergency technical support for substation equipment failures.
