Job summary

FirstEnergy in Ohio is seeking an Engineer II/III/IV to deliver field engineering services for maintenance, construction, testing and commissioning of substation equipment up to 765kV. The role involves extensive fieldwork at company and customer substations and service centers, with significant travel required.

The engineer will commission equipment, develop check-out guides and energization plans, provide onsite design support, and collaborate with regional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• FE Certificate is preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience.
• Experience with substation equipment design, maintenance or testing is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining a safe workplace for coworkers and the community.
• Commissioning new transmission substation equipment prior to release to operations.
• Developing check-out guides, test results reviews, isolation plans, and energization plans.
• Providing onsite technical support to regional substation services employees during maintenance activities.
• Communicating across multi-disciplined teams to ensure successful project completion.
• Travel throughout the FirstEnergy system with possible overnight stays.
