Job summary

Black & Veatch Corporation is seeking experienced SCADA engineers to support the Power SCADA team in modernizing grid infrastructure. The role focuses on IEC61850-based substation automation, time synchronization, cybersecurity, and open, vendor-agnostic architectures.

You will design, implement, and validate production-ready Power SCADA solutions, collaborating with utilities, partners, and industry groups to advance digital substations and secure communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and at least 5 years of related work experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Experience with IEC61850, time synchronization, digital substations, and cybersecurity is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop SCL engineering artifacts including ICD, CID, and SCD files, datasets, logical node mappings, reporting and control blocks, and GOOSE publications and subscriptions.
• Configure and validate MMS, GOOSE, and SV messaging for protection, automation, monitoring, and SCADA applications.
• Design and document station-bus and process-bus network architectures using PRP/HSR, VLANs, QoS, multicast management, and traffic segmentation practices.
• Design deterministic real-time networking paths for time-sensitive protection and automation applications, including latency budgeting and PTP timing performance.
• Diagnose and optimize real-time network behavior through traffic-capture analysis and system-level tuning for time-critical workloads.
• Develop PTP-based time synchronization architectures including grandmaster, boundary, and transparent clock configurations.
