Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Senior Substation Automation Engineer to lead IEC 61850-based digital substations, guiding design, integration, and production rollout for grid modernization.

You will design secure, vendor-agnostic architectures, model data with SCL, validate MMS/GOOSE/SV, and collaborate with utilities, partners, and industry groups to advance time synchronization, cybersecurity, and scalable protection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 11 years related work experience.
• Active engineering registration or licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop SCL engineering artifacts including ICD, CID, SCD files and GOOSE publications.
• Configure MMS, GOOSE, and SV messaging for protection and SCADA applications.
• Design station-bus and process-bus networks using PRP/HSR, VLANs, QoS, and multicast management.
• Integrate multi-vendor IEDs with protection settings and SCADA/HMI systems.
• Contribute to cyber-security and system-hardening within architecture.
