Job summary

Liberty Resources is seeking a Substance Use Group Counselor in New York to facilitate group therapy sessions for individuals facing substance use disorders. You will educate, support, and guide clients toward coping skills and recovery in a structured treatment environment.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with conflict-resolution ability.
• Knowledge of addiction treatment models and mental health disorders.
• Ability to create a positive, structured group environment and document care.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, and mental health.
• Monitors client interaction and behaviors; role model for participants.
• Writes group and individual progress notes to document interactions and services.
• Contributes to upkeep and cleanliness of the residence.
• Completes all required documentation on time per program standards.
• Provides a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment for clients.
• Educates clients about substance use, mental health, and healthy coping strategies.
• Monitors progress, behavior, and engagement in group therapy.
• Maintains confidential records of client progress and participation.
• Recognizes and responds to crisis with referrals to higher levels of care when needed.
• Stays updated on best practices in substance abuse treatment and applies new methods.
