Job summary

Hillsborough Comprehensive Treatment Center in Hillsborough, NC, seeks a Substance Use Counselor to support patients with opioid use disorder through individual and group counseling within a MAT-focused outpatient program.

The role emphasizes compassionate, evidence-based care, documentation, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to plan treatment, assess needs, and coordinate referrals and aftercare when needed.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Prefer Bachelor's or Master's in social or health services.
• Degree from accredited college with practicum for licensure.
• Experience in addiction recovery or behavioral health settings.
• Familiarity with MAT (methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone).
• Experience with individual and group counseling.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices (CBT, MI).
• Documentation in clinical notes per state/federal guidelines.
• Familiarity with 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA, Joint Commission.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality, compassionate guidance in both individual and group sessions.
• Plan, oversee, facilitate and document patient's recovery.
• Co-facilitate group or family sessions as needed.
• Ensure timely and concise documentation of patient care.
• Prepare individual treatment plans for assigned patients.
• Conduct initial and follow-up assessments.
• Evaluate needs and determine referrals to other programs.
• May plan for aftercare for assigned patients.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Provide case management to ensure quality care.
• Act as liaison between referral sources and patients.
