Job summary

Universal Health Services is seeking a counselor to provide individual substance use disorder counseling in a fast-paced inpatient or outpatient setting. You will develop treatment plans, document care, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team using motivational interviewing and trauma-informed approaches.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and CADC certification (or approved Limited Counselor status) with eligibility for further certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an MCBAP-recognized discipline applicable to the CADC pathway.
• CADC credential through MCBAP or Limited Certified Counselor status with required supervision.
• Eligibility to obtain the applicable MCBAP development/limited certification within a defined period after hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual substance use disorder counseling to patients in line with treatment plans.
• Facilitate counseling groups and structured clinical programming using evidence-informed approaches.
• Establish therapeutic relationships using professional boundaries and motivational interviewing.
• Develop and update individualized treatment/service plans with the patient and treatment team.
• Complete timely clinical documentation (notes, plans, reviews, progress, discharge).
• Monitor changes in patient behavior and escalate concerns per protocol.
• Adhere to policies on patient rights, safety, confidentiality, infection prevention, and incident reporting.
