Job summary

Contra Costa County Health Services Department is seeking qualified Substance Abuse Counselors to support the Alcohol and Other Drugs Unit within the Behavioral Health Division. Qualifications

• Must possess a valid California driver's license (out-of-state licenses considered)
• Certification as Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor
• 30 semester or 45 quarter units with 12 semester or 15 quarter units in psychology, sociology, counseling, or chemical dependency
• One year of full-time counseling experience in a substance abuse program or one year as a Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee in Contra Costa County
• Background check/physical examination may be required

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants to determine program eligibility
• Conduct intake assessments to identify client problems and action plans
• Orient clients on program requirements
• Provide substance abuse counseling to individuals, families and groups
• Conduct group education programs
• Provide crisis intervention and counseling
• Develop recovery plans and refer to appropriate service providers
• Represent division in community outreach and education
• Maintain client records and perform charting
• Participate in meetings, committees and training
• Schedule and implement daily client activities
• Monitor client files and prepare reports for agencies
• Develop aftercare plans and client follow-up
• Deliver excellent customer service to internal and external customers
