Job summary

The Salvation Army Midtown Service and Treatment Center in Missouri is hiring a Substance Abuse Counselor to provide counseling services, conduct intakes and assessments, and develop treatment plans. Responsibilities include crisis intervention, ongoing follow-up, group therapy, safety planning, and referrals.

This is a full-time exempt role based at the O’Fallon site. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s in Social Work or related field, Missouri certification as an Alcohol/Drug Counselor, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field is required.
• Missouri Substance Abuse Counselor Certification Board certification is required; other credentials such as QSAP, CADC, CRAADC, CCJP, CCDP, CCDP-D, LPC, LCSW or Clinical Psychologist are acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain confidential, systematic, accurate documentation of client progress.
• Lead group counseling and education sessions with clients daily.
• Conduct evaluation interviews to assess treatment needs and plan.
• Make referrals to Community Support Worker and outside agencies as needed.
• Develop and review safety plans and treatment plans; provide ongoing follow-up counseling.

The Salvation Army Midtown Service and Treatment Center is looking fora Substance Abuse Counselor. This individual will be responsible for counseling clients, conducting intakes, assessments, crisis intervention, developing treatment plans, ongoing follow up counseling and treatment plan reviews, developing safety plans, group therapy, and education and facilitating referrals.

This is a full-time, exempt position, pay is based on experience.

Essential Duties

• Maintain confidential, systematic, accurate documentation of client progress.
• Lead group counseling and education sessions with clients daily.
• Conduct evaluation interviews to assess the type of treatment required by the client.
• Make referrals to Community Support Worker, Mental Health Counselor and outside agencies as needed.
• Conduct family education sessions and/co-dependent counseling.
• Maintain daily service activity reports, monthly veteran’s assistance reports, weekly staffing reports and other reports as needed.
• Attend weekly staff meetings, counseling team meetings, peer to peer chart review sessions, monthly in service training sessions, and other meetings as directed.
• Participate in related community activities as time permits.
• Maintain positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good
• relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field with two years’ full-time experience in treatment or rehabilitation of substance abuse required; Alcohol, Drug or Substance Abuse Counselor certified by the Missouri Substance Abuse Counselors Certification Board; Inc. will be considered. In additions, one of the following credentials is required: QSAP, CADC, CRAADC, CCJP, CCDP, CCDP-D, LPC, LCSW or Clinical Psychologist. CPR/First Aid certification required. Must be able to demonstrate general computer, strong organizational and good communication skills. Must be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Requires a high level of confidentiality.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

Capable of performing in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, moving client files, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment
