Job summary

The Salvation Army Midtown Service and Treatment Center in Missouri is seeking a full-time Substance Abuse Counselor to provide counseling, intakes, crisis intervention, and treatment planning. You will conduct assessments, develop safety plans, and lead group education and family sessions in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities include documenting client progress, referrals to external agencies, and participating in staff and community meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field plus two years’ full-time experience in treatment or rehabilitation of substance abuse.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Missouri Substance Abuse Counselors Certification Board certification (QSAP, CADC, CRAADC, CCJP, CCDP, CCDP-D, LPC, LCSW or Clinical Psychologist) preferred/required.
  • Must demonstrate strong computer, organizational and communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Maintain confidential, systematic, accurate documentation of client progress.
  • Lead group counseling and education sessions with clients daily.
  • Conduct evaluation interviews to assess the type of treatment required by the client.
  • Make referrals to Community Support Worker, Mental Health Counselor and outside agencies as needed.
  • Conduct family education sessions and/co-dependent counseling.
  • Maintain daily service activity reports, monthly veteran’s assistance reports, weekly staffing reports and other reports as needed.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, counseling team meetings, peer to peer chart review sessions, monthly in service training sessions, and other meetings as directed.
  • Participate in related community activities as time permits.
  • Maintain positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

The Salvation Army Midtown Service and Treatment Center is looking fora Substance Abuse Counselor. This is a full-time, exempt position, pay is based on experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field with two years’ full-time experience in treatment or rehabilitation of substance abuse required; Alcohol, Drug or Substance Abuse Counselor certified by the Missouri Substance Abuse Counselors Certification Board; Inc. will be considered. In additions, o ne of the following credentials is required: QSAP, CADC, CRAADC, CCJP, CCDP, CCDP-D, LPC, LCSW or Clinical Psychologist. CPR/First Aid certification required. Must be able to demonstrate general computer, strong organizational and good communication skills. Must be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Requires a high level of confidentiality.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

Capable of performing in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, moving client files, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment
