Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a mechanical engineer to design, analyze, and support the fabrication of pressurized systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater used on underwater launchers. You will develop TDPs with stress calculations and FEA, and create 3D CAD parts and drawings in SolidWorks.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering and US citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoW Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, analyze, and support fabrication of pressurized mechanical systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater for underwater launchers.
• Support development of Technical Data Packages (TDPs) with free body diagrams, stress calculations, and FEA to prove design meets requirements.
• Create 3D CAD parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings in SolidWorks; select design materials per stress and specs.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews of drawings and TDPs; interface with customers and government sponsors.
• Assist with testing of designs onboard submarines; some travel possible; research submarine construction drawings using ATIS.
