Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a mechanical engineer to design, analyze, and support the fabrication of pressurized systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater used in underwater launchers.

You will perform stress analyses, develop TDPs, and produce 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, interfacing with government sponsors and customers. Some submarine testing travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering.
• Ability to maintain a DoW Secret Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance
• Physically capable to conduct ship checks on United States Nuclear Submarines
• Be comfortable in relatively confined spaces.
• Capable of climbing vertical ladders (20’ – 25’) within the submarine.
• At least three (2) years academic experience doing stress analysis with hand calculations
• At least one (1) years academic experience using FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation
• Professional experience with Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and support fabrication of pressurized mechanical systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater.
• Support TDPs with free body diagrams, stress calculations, and FEA in ANSYS.
• Create 3D CAD parts and 2D drawings in SolidWorks.
• Select design materials based on stress calculations and specs.
• Conduct QA reviews of drawings and TDPs.
• Interface with customers and government sponsors.
• Support testing of designs onboard submarines with travel.
• Research submarine construction drawings using ATIS.
