Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer in Norwich, CT to design, analyze, and support the fabrication of pressurized systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater used in underwater launchers. A Secret clearance is required.

You will mentor engineers, develop TDPs with FEA proofs in ANSYS, and create CAD models and drawings in SolidWorks. Materials will be selected per stress results and specs, with QA reviews and customer interfacing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering.
• Ability to maintain a DoW Secret Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance.
• Physically capable to conduct ship checks on United States Nuclear Submarines.
• Be comfortable in relatively confined spaces.
• Capable of climbing vertical ladders (20' - 25') within the submarine.
• At least three (3) years professional experience doing stress analysis with hand calculations
• At least three (3) years professional experience using FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation
• Professional experience with Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, analyze, and support fabrication of pressurized mechanical systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater for underwater launchers.
• Develop Technical Data Packages (TDPs) with FEA proofs.
• Create 3D CAD parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings in SolidWorks.
• Select design materials based on stress calculations and specs.
• Conduct quality assurance reviews of drawings and TDPs.
• Interface with customers and government sponsors.
• Support testing of designs onboard submarines with possible travel.
• Research submarine construction drawings using ATIS System.
