Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Mechanical/Structural Engineer to design and analyze pressurized submarine systems, mentor designers, and prepare TDPs with FEA in ANSYS. This role involves creating 3D CAD parts in SolidWorks and collaborating with customers and sponsors.

Candidates should have a mechanical/civil/structural engineering degree, DoW clearance, US citizenship, and at least 3 years in stress analysis and FEA tools, with readiness for on-site work and occasional submarine testing travel.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering.
Ability to maintain a DoW Secret Clearance.
U.S. Citizenship required for security clearance.
Physically capable to conduct ship checks on US submarines.
Comfortable in relatively confined spaces.
Capable of climbing vertical ladders (20’–25’) on submarines.
At least 3 years of stress analysis experience (hand calculations).
At least 3 years of experience using FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation.
Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, analyze, and support fabrication of pressurized mechanical systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater, for underwater launchers.
Develop Technical Data Packages (TDPs) with free body diagrams, stress calcs, and FEA in ANSYS to prove requirements.
Create 3D CAD parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings in SolidWorks.
Select materials based on stress calculations and specs.
Conduct QA reviews of drawings and TDPs.
Interface with customers and government sponsors.
