Job Duties
A stylist-in-training at Regis is a temporary 90-day position designed to integrate an unlicensed, future stylist into the salon workplace and to help them learn the business. It is the stylist-in-training's responsibility to deliver exceptional customer service and to communicate effectively with management, customers, and co-workers. Specifically, the stylist-in-training's job duties include:
- Market and grow the business
- Observe other stylists/managers at work and ask relevant questions
- Provide exceptional customer service
- Control expenses
- Promote and sell services and retail products
- Answer telephones, stock and dust shelves, and sweep hair
- Complete all other duties as assigned by manager
The stylist-in-training may be eligible for a promotion to the stylist position once they receive their license. To be considered for promotion, the stylist-in-training must:
- Possess a valid appropriate license in their applicable state of employment
- Be able to perform duties permitted by their license, including cutting, styling, coloring, waxing, washing, and perming hair
- Demonstrate adherence to Regis values of honesty, accountability, integrity, and respect
Qualifications
- Must graduate from an accredited cosmetology school and obtain necessary license(s) within or before 90 days of hire
- Ability to work in a dynamic salon environment
- Good time management, judgment, and multi-tasking skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for professional communication
- Computer knowledge including POS systems and data entry
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends
Essential Functions
Market and Grow the Business
- Promote and sell services and products, recommending additional services and retail items
- Convey clear pricing information
- Coordinate promotional displays using ShopTalk
- Sell to walk-in retail customers
Provide Exceptional Customer Service
- Greet customers professionally, understand their needs, and escort them through the salon
- Estimate wait times and answer calls promptly
- Handle complaints and escalate issues as needed
Manage and Control Expenses
- Follow salon schedules
- Charge accurately for services and products, applying discounts appropriately
- Safeguard assets per company policies
Complete Administrative Tasks and Ensure Compliance
- Assist with salon operations such as answering phones, stocking, sweeping, and other duties
- Communicate professionally with staff and clients
- Maintain safety standards and attend mandatory meetings and training
- Handle POS transactions including opening and closing the register
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs., occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Continuous standing and reaching
- Occasional pushing, pulling, and ladder use
- Exposure to chemicals and fragrances
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills
- Occasional travel for meetings and training
