Job summary

Texas A&M University-Commerce invites applications for a Student Worker role in the UTS - Science Tutor program. You will greet students, tutor in Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, and maintain tutoring documents using Navigate360 software.

Qualified undergraduates enrolled in ET A&M Commerce, available on weekends and evenings, with basic computer, typing, and organizational skills, will thrive. This position runs for Fall and Spring semesters and supports student learning.

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate student at East Texas A&M University-Commerce (Commerce campus).
  • Available on weekends and in the evening.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Basic phone operations (answering, holding, and transferring).
  • Basic organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member toward tutoring center goals.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Security-sensitive; criminal history check required.

Responsibilities

  • Greet students, answer questions, and direct them to the proper individual(s).
  • Meet with students to tutor in Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics.
  • Maintain documents in the Science tutoring location with Navigate360 software.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the supervisor.
  • Work with students to assist them in understanding material from freshman and sophomore level courses.
  • Work with a group of students.
  • Work with Faculty members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position is for one Fall and Spring semester.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Greet students, answer questions, and direct them to the proper individual(s).

Qualifications: Requirements and Skills:
  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at East Texas A&M University-Commerce.
  • Must be available on weekends and in the evening.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Basic phone operations (answering, holding, and transferring).
  • Basic organizational skills.
  • Perform accurate and detailed work.
  • Ability to work as a team member toward the common goals of the tutoring center.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • All positions are security-sensitive.   • Student worker positions are part-time roles available throughout the university in a variety of departments and offices.
  • These roles help students gain hands-on experience in a professional setting.
  • May work up to 19 hours per week while classes are in session
  • May work full-time during breaks and summer if enrolled for the upcoming fall
  • Must not work during scheduled class times
  • Open to all actively enrolled students regardless of financial aid status
  • Students do not need to be enrolled during summer if they plan to return in the fall
  • Work-study positions are need-based jobs funded through federal or state financial aid programs and allow students to earn money to help pay for educational expenses.
  • Must be awarded federal or state work-study through Financial Aid
  • May work up to 19 hours per week during the semester
  • May work full-time during breaks and summer if returning in the fall
  • Must not work during scheduled class times
  • Positions are limited to the amount awarded and must follow program guidelines
  • Graduate assistantships offer opportunities to teach, conduct research, or assist in academic departments while continuing your graduate education.
To qualify, students must:
  • Be fully admitted to a graduate program (not provisional or non-degree)
  • Be in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Be enrolled in courses each term of the assistantship
  • Meet specific credit hour and subject requirements for teaching or lab roles
  • Non-native English speakers must demonstrate language proficiency
  • Research assistants must complete Responsible Conduct in Research training
  • Work up to 20 hours per week, depending on the appointment
  • May have teaching or research assignments, or provide administrative support
