Mount St. Mary’s University is seeking a Student Worker for Recreation & Wellness as a Facility Assistant (Work-Study). This role supports ARCC facilities operations, greets patrons, answers questions, and helps maintain a safe, well‑run environment for students and athletes.

Position Title: Student Worker - Recreation & Wellness Facility Assistant (Work-Study)

Job Description: Facility Assistant (FA) Job Description Facility Assistants work with fellow FAs, supervisors, directors, and full-time employees to ensure our Mount facilities run smoothly. Together, we provide excellent customer service to our students, the Mount community, ARCC members, and student-athletes. FAs are scheduled for 8 hours per week outside of classes and other excused extracurricular activities. Upon hiring, FAs will be given a manual that explains the position's expectations, including uniforms, cell phone policy, substitution policy, etc. Our department seeks students to represent both the athletic and campus recreation teams as professional, responsible, and dependable student leaders. We are excited to welcome you to our team.


Job Purpose

The purpose of the Facility Assistant is to ensure our facility spaces are used safely by eligible patrons. They must have knowledge and understanding of all ARCC policies and procedures. Under the supervision of Recreation and Wellness Supervisors and Graduate Assistants, the Facility Assistants will closely monitor areas and ensure that the standards set forth by the Athletic & Recreation and Wellness department are being upheld.


Job Responsibilities


  • Provide excellent customer service & greet all patrons.

  • Assist with any questions asked.

  • Have knowledge and understanding of ARCC Facility Hours, General Information, Field House Policies, Visitor Pass Policy, and Memberships.

  • Monitor and promote safety within the Equipment Room of Waldron Family Stadium and the ARCC, Field House Group, and Exercise Studios.

  • Basic knowledge of Fitness Center equipment and setting up Rec Sports equipment (tennis, volleyball, pickleball nets)

  • Perform cleaning responsibilities, such as cleaning Fitness Center machines, Rec Sports equipment, switching laundry, etc.

  • Complete any office-related tasks in Athletic & Rec spaces.

  • Fold/collect towels

  • Assist in moving equipment

  • Assist in running campus errands

  • Collect and verify valid IDs.

  • Issue equipment and locker keys.

  • Enter correct patron information into a shared document.

  • Check-in Group Fitness Classes using the Involve App.

  • Collect and properly document fees associated with group exercise classes (semester & drop-in), and facility Visitor Passes.

  • Complete equipment inventory and organize accordingly

  • Attend all staff meetings and training.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Must be enrolled as a student at Mount St. Mary's University

  • Must be available for weekends/evenings.

  • Applicants are expected to be personable, organized, self-motivated, and team-oriented.

  • Applicants should possess skills in time management, problem-solving, and customer service.


Salary and Hours

Students are paid the current minimum wage for Maryland. Students will work a total of eight (8) hours per week. We will work with schedules to ensure there are no conflicts with classes/sports. Full Time/Part Time: Part time
