University of Utah is seeking a Student Technology Assistant to support day-to-day and event-day technology needs at Rice-Eccles Stadium and the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

You will work with the Tech Services team to assist with venue technology, including AV systems, networking, LED displays, and ticketing technology. This role offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced, large-venue tech environment, with opportunities to learn across multiple technology areas and to contribute to event operations

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent; one year of education may substitute for two years of related work experience.
  • Two years of related experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, human relations and effective communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Tech Services with setup, operation, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance of technology systems throughout Rice‑Eccles Stadium and the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
  • Provide event-day technology support for athletic events, concerts and other special events, including pre-event checks and post-event support.
  • Assist with audiovisual systems, displays, LED technology, computers, networking and Wi‑Fi equipment, radios, ticketing technology and control systems.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance to identify and resolve issues before events.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, cabling, and deployment of new technology and equipment.
  • Support basic network troubleshooting for wired and wireless devices and venue endpoints.

Student Technology Assistant
Job Summary

The Student Technology Operations Technician supports theday-to-day and event-day technology needs of Rice-Eccles Stadiumand the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Working alongside the Tech Servicesteam, this position provides hands‑on assistance with venuetechnology, including audiovisual systems, networking and Wi-Fi,LED displays, ticketing technology, radios, computers, controlsystems, and other event‑related equipment.

This position is designed to provide practical experience in a fast‑paced, large‑venue technology environment. The student willassist with equipment setup, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance,inventory, documentation, and event‑day technical support whilegaining exposure to the systems and infrastructure used to operatemajor collegiate athletics, entertainment, and specialevents.

No one is expected to know every system on day one. We are lookingfor someone who is dependable, curious, comfortable withtechnology, willing to learn, and ready to jump in wherever theTech Services team needs support.

  • Perform routine equipment inspections and preventativemaintenance to help identify and resolve issues before they impactan event.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, cabling, anddeployment of new technology and equipment.
  • Support basic network and connectivity troubleshooting, includingwired and wireless devices and venue technology endpoints.
  • Assist with inventory management, equipment organization,labeling, documentation, and maintaining clean and organizedtechnology workspaces.
  • Help create and maintain technical documentation, equipmentrecords, diagrams, procedures, and event‑day checklists.
  • Work with Tech Services staff, University departments, vendors,and event personnel to help resolve technical issues and supportvenue operations.
  • Learn and develop skills across multiple areas of venuetechnology, including emerging systems and technologies used withinTech Services.
  • Maintain appropriate security and confidentiality when workingwith technology systems, network infrastructure, access-controlledspaces, and University equipment.
  • Communicate technical issues clearly and promptly and escapeproblems when additional assistance is needed.
  • Perform other technology and event-support duties as assignedbased on the operational needs of Tech Services.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in a computer related field or equivalency (oneyear of education can be substituted for two years of related workexperience). Two years of related experience preferred.Demonstrated computer skills, human relations and effectivecommunication skills are required.

Preferences
  • Current University of Utah student pursuing a degree ordemonstrating an interest in Information Technology, ComputerScience, Information Systems, Engineering, Audio/Visual Technology,Broadcast Technology, or a related field.
  • General interest in technology, troubleshooting, and learning howlarge-scale venue technology systems operate.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, networking, audiovisual equipment,or other technology systems is preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable working hands‑on with technology, includingcomputers, cabling, displays, networking equipment, and otherelectronic systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learnunfamiliar systems and technologies.
  • Dependable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently aswell as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability towork professionally with staff, vendors, event personnel, andguests.
  • Ability to remain calm and work effectively in fast‑paced,high‑pressure event environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Availability for athletic events, concerts, and other specialevents, including evenings and weekends, is stronglypreferred.
  • Previous experience with IT support, networking, AV, broadcast,live events, or venue operations is a plus but is not required.Training and hands‑on experience will be provided.

Weunderstand that academics come first, and when school obligationscreate a conflict, we will work with the student to accommodatethose needs with advance communication.
