Job summary

University of South Carolina seeks a Student Systems Tech Team Manager to lead a technical team responsible for Ellucian Banner and related student systems. You will shape the strategy, drive modernization, and partner with stakeholders to deliver robust, secure solutions for the student experience.

You will oversee upgrades, integrations, and production support while mentoring staff and building strong customer relationships across Admissions, Registrar, and Financial Aid.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
• At least 2 years of experience managing or supervising technical professionals.
• Significant experience supporting a Student Information System, with 5+ years of Ellucian Banner Student experience preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of databases, SQL, system integrations, APIs/interfaces, data management, and enterprise application architecture.
• Experience with application development and the full software development lifecycle, including design, testing, deployment, maintenance, and change management.
• Experience planning and executing enterprise application upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and production deployments.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex production application and integration problems and lead root‑cause analysis.
• Leadership style that develops people, encourages collaboration, builds technical depth, and holds teams accountable for results.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing technical team responsible for USC's Student Systems applications.
• Provide technical leadership for Ellucian Banner, DegreeWorks, Banner Document Management, batch processing, integrations, and related technologies.
• Oversee the development, configuration, testing, deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of student systems.
• Ensure reliable day‑to‑day operations of mission‑critical systems, including production troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, upgrades, patches, and performance management.
• Lead technical projects involving new functionality, integrations, enhancements, upgrades, and data migrations.
• Establish and continuously improve development, testing, documentation, change management, source/code management, and production‑support standards.
• Partner with functional organizations and stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective, maintainable technical solutions.
• Manage vendors and third‑party technology providers and coordinate their work with university technical and functional teams.
• Protect the security, integrity, privacy, and availability of student information, including adherence to FERPA and university IT policies.
• Build strong relationships with university customers through responsive support, clear communication, accountability, and a service‑oriented approach.
