Job summary

Sarasota County Schools seeks a dedicated paraprofessional to support students with academic and behavioral instruction under the direction of a classroom teacher. The role emphasizes supervision, safety, and collaborative teamwork within a school setting.

The position requires a minimum education of an AA/AS or 60 credits, CPI training during probation, and potential ASD certification hours. Strong communication and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• A passing score on the Para Pro Assessment Test or an AA/AS degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited institution.
• Must complete verbal and physical CPI training within probation.
• May be required to complete 40 hours of ASD-related training to obtain ASD certification by end of probation.

Responsibilities

• Independently supervise and implement instruction to students as assigned.
• Assist staff with behavioral management.
• Create a safe learning environment and workplace.
• Prepare accurate records, reports and clerical tasks as assigned.
• Develop instructional materials.
• Assist with personal care including diapering, toileting, feeding, and medical tasks.
• Assist with school-wide supervisory tasks as assigned.
• Assess student progress.
• Communicate effectively with staff and parents.
• Use specialized equipment as required.
• Intervene in discipline situations when health or safety is at risk.
• Demonstrate initiative and maintain high ethical standards.
• Follow attendance, punctuality and dress rules.
• Maintain confidentiality about school matters.
• Maintain positive relationships with staff and vendors.
• Participate in workshops and training sessions as needed.
