Job Summary
The position is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher by performing tasks assigned and directed by the teacher. The tasks must not infringe upon the responsibilities reserved for the certified teacher. It is vital that both the staff and the monitor fully understand the monitor's limitations and duties. The purpose of the Student Support Monitor is to actively participate in preventing behavioral problems and/or provide support for their assigned students. This involves active communication with the teacher and may require a written behavior plan tailored to the specific student. Students are to be in the educational environment/classroom they are assigned to, unless the teacher or administrator reassigns them and monitors them at another location. The monitor must remain with the student at all times, except during the monitor's scheduled time, as specified in the child's plan. The child's Support Monitor should not be assigned other duties within the school that separate them from their student.

Hours and Benefits
There is a plan to decrease the level of assistance needed to complete a task or activity. Services will be faded in accordance with policy. This is not a contracted position. Employment is based upon student need and funding and can be discontinued at any time. The Student Support Monitor will not be employed during suspensions and planned student absences. If the student is unexpectedly absent or if the assigned student is suspended from school, the assistant will not be employed for the duration of the absence or suspension. Because this position is considered part-time, it does not carry benefits such as sick leave or personal days. *Information regarding health insurance will be provided upon request. *

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in regular classrooms, outdoors, and on telephone; physical agility to lift to 50 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
Work Environment
Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
