Job summary

Sweetwater Care seeks a Resource Counseling Assistant to support students with social, emotional, and educational challenges. You will work with supervisors, teachers and counselors to provide culturally informed counseling and translation services for students and families.

The role includes home visits, group sessions, and collaboration with school staff to enhance learning outcomes. A California driver’s license and language tests are required.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Some college courses in child development or counseling preferred.
• California driver’s license required.
• Must pass the district language tests for English and a second/third language if bilingual position.
• Experience dealing with special needs students is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist students and families in resolving health, behavior, attendance and other problems to support students in achieving their personal best and educational excellence.
• Promote and encourage students’ educational and vocational plans to raise achievement.
• Provide in-service for staff regarding cultural awareness to support diverse students and families.
• Make home visits and translate to foster home/school communication and collaboration.
• Provide sessions with small groups of students to address social, emotional, and educational issues under supervision.
• Perform clerical duties (filing, copying, record keeping, routine reports) and operate office equipment.
