Job summary

Sweetwater Care seeks a Resource Counseling Assistant to support students with social and emotional challenges under the supervision of a certificated staff member. The role includes counseling sessions, translating for families, and coordinating with teachers and counselors.

Responsibilities include home visits, parent communication, and maintaining records while handling clerical duties. A valid California driver’s license is preferred and bilingual ability may be required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Some work experience in dealing with special needs and problems of students in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist students and families in resolving health, behavior, attendance and other problems to support students in achieving their personal best and reaching educational excellence.
• Promote and encourage students’ educational and vocational plans to expand practices proven to raise student achievement.
• Provide in-service for school staff regarding cultural awareness to ensure better understanding and to support the needs of diverse students and families.
• Make home visits and assist in home/school communication by translating orally or in written form to help establish collaborative relationships with families.
• Provide sessions with small groups of students to facilitate communication and understanding of social, emotional and educational problems under supervision of a certificated person.
• Perform clerical duties including filing, copying, record keeping and preparation of routine reports; operate office equipment.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
