Job summary

Spokane Public Schools is seeking a School Academic Support Specialist to collaborate with teachers, families, and community partners to support at-risk students and improve attendance and engagement.

You will coordinate with Student Services, implement strategies aligned with the School Improvement Plan, and arrange wrap-around services to meet social, emotional and academic needs, often beyond regular hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Experience in public school system, especially with high school students.
  • Experience using data to guide intervention and support strategies.
  • Ability to interact with diverse students, families and staff in a confidential manner.
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive programs and activities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify most at-risk students.
  • Coordinate with attendance office to determine youth with patterns of absenteeism or tardiness.
  • Intervene with strategies to reduce tardiness.
  • Work with staff to ensure students are in support programs that meet their individual needs.
  • Work with parents to support social/academic needs of students.
  • Develop partnerships to promote student learning.
  • Coordinate parent community family dinners and Open House events.
  • Work with teachers to identify youth needs and coordinate with counselors for services.
  • Coordinate resources from community organizations to provide wrap-around services.
  • Provide supervision and coordination of programming during and beyond the school day.
  • Willingness to work before or after school hours.
