Responsibilities

• Monitor and support the student's behavior according to classroom expectations and school policies.
• Implement behavior support strategies as directed by the student's plan and school administration.
• Redirect the student to assigned classroom activities and tasks when necessary.
• Utilize behavioral regulation and de-escalation strategies to help the student remain engaged and successful throughout the school day.
• Encourage appropriate social interactions and positive peer relationships.
• Support the students’ participation in classroom lessons, transitions, specials, lunch, recess, and other school activities.
• Maintain ongoing communication with the classroom teacher regarding student progress, concerns, and behavioral observations.
• Ensure student safety while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with school policies and applicable regulations.

Job Title: Student Support Assistant

The student support assistant provides direct support to an upper elementary student with special needs in a classroom setting. The assistant works closely with the classroom teacher and administration to support the student's successful participation in academic, social, and behavioral aspects of the school day. The ideal candidate is patient, proactive, consistent, and committed to helping students develop independence while maintaining classroom expectations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Monitor and support the student's behavior according to established classroom expectations and school policies.
• Implement behavior support strategies and interventions as directed by the student's support plan and school administration.
• Redirect the student to assigned classroom activities and tasks when necessary.
• Utilize behavioral regulation and de-escalation strategies to help the student remain engaged and successful throughout the school day.
• Encourage appropriate social interactions and positive peer relationships.
• Support the students’ participation in classroom lessons, transitions, specials, lunch, recess, and other school activities.

Associate degree, college coursework, or specialized training in Special Education, Education, Child Development, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or a related field preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in special education or a related field
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with students with special needs in a classroom or educational setting is preferred.
• Experience implementing behavioral supports, redirection strategies, and positive behavior intervention techniques.

Salary equal with experience and qualifications.

Schedule:

Monday-Thursday 8:15am-4:15pm, Friday 8:15am-2:45pm (1:45pm in winter months)

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. Employees must be ready to work as of August 1st, 2026.
