Arkansas City Public Schools USD 470 is seeking a Student Assistant Team Member to support students and teachers in an instructional classroom setting during designated school hours.

You will assist in delivering instructional activities, supervise students, and help maintain a safe, inclusive environment; strong communication and adaptability are valued. A high school diploma or GED is required, with an associate degree or 48 college credits preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Reports To

School Principal & Assigned Classroom Teacher

Work Schedule

Nine-month agreement; Monday through Friday during designated school hours on days when students are in session.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in the delivery of instructional activities in whole group, small group, and one-on-one settings.
• Provide individualized support to students to reinforce learning concepts and skills introduced by the classroom teacher.
• Adapt instructional materials as directed to meet student needs.
• Monitor and supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during school-related activities.
• Encourage appropriate student behavior through positive reinforcement and adherence to school rules.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
• Assist with implementing accommodations and modifications as outlined in Individualize Education Programs (IEPs).
• Participate in professional development and training sessions as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by classroom teacher or school Principal.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed primarily in the classroom environment.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling (25-50 lbs.).
• Ability to sit on the floor, kneel, or move quickly to support students in classroom and playground activities.
• Exposure to typical childhood illnesses and minor injuries in a school environment.
• Requires regular attendance, punctuality, and the ability to work flexible assignments as directed.
