Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students in elementary, middle, and/or high school to help them earn academic success, improve attendance, and build positive behaviors. You will receive 2–4 weeks of training at the year’s start and collaborate with partner teachers and school staff throughout the year to monitor progress and support classroom instruction.

Qualifications

• Coaches and mentors students to improve academic skills and behavior.
• Works with teachers and staff to support classroom instruction.
• Plan and monitor student progress using data and feedback.

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills through varied activities
• Create and implement behavior management strategies
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress and participate in data reviews
• Create engaging, safe, and productive classroom spaces in partnership with teachers
• Support extended day and after-school programming and events
