Job summary

Seminole State College of Florida is seeking a Student Success Specialist I to serve as the primary contact for current and prospective students across programs and courses. You will guide applicants through admissions, placement testing, financial aid, advising, and enrollment steps with a focus on service excellence.

Responsibilities include academic advisement, assisting with admissions processes, and coordinating referrals to tutoring, counseling, and disability services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience.
  • Knowledge of college enrollment functions incl. admissions, placement testing, advising, and financial aid.

Job description

Responsibilities

The Student Success Specialist I is the point of contact to currentand prospective students on a wide range of services on allprograms and courses offered by the College. Provides informationand appropriate services for current and prospective studentsthroughout the enrollment process, including admissions, placementtesting, applying for financial aid, advising, andregistration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. 1. Provides academic advisement services to all students, assistingthem in planning their educational goals, reviewing the programs ofstudy and their respective requirements, selecting appropriatecourse work, and reviewing graduation requirements.
  2. 2. Advises students on the application process, such asrequirements of transcripts, acceptable documents to verifyresidency for tuition purposes; the financial aid process andrequirements, including FAFSA submittal, verification documents,sources of aid and associated responsibilities, acceptance, anddeferment of aid; and payment of tuition.
  3. 3. Analyzes and interprets departmental or functional requirementsfor students to enable them to assume increasing self-reliance inre-enrollment processes in subsequent terms.
  4. 4. Provides feedback of departmental gaps and operationalprocedures that impact the student experience from initial contactthrough re-enrollment and graduation.
  5. 5. Assists students and campus visitors with college programs andservices.
  6. 6. Determines acceptability of all documents required for admissionand enrollment for students.
  7. 7. Interprets college assessments to students according to established standards and protocols and explains how they determineinitial placement in academic programs and courses.
  8. 8. Supports students in completing steps to enroll and supportsCollege enrollment management goals through job duties andparticipation in College events such as Decision Days and CollegeNights.
  9. 9. Refers students to academic departments, tutoring services,counseling, services for students with disabilities, veteran’saffairs, career development, and other support services.
  10. 10. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college oruniversity.
  2. 2. One year of experience working with students in an educationalsetting or related experience.

Work Environment and Special Considerations
  1. 1. Works in an office environment.
  2. 2. Ability to work flexible hours including some nights andweekends.
  3. 3. Ability to travel between campuses.
