Job summary

Southeastern Illinois College is seeking a full-time, grant-funded TRIO/SSS Retention Specialist to support students in achieving academic goals. This 12-month role helps students overcome barriers, stay engaged, and persist toward completion.

The specialist builds relationships, assesses needs, connects students with resources, and collaborates with faculty and student services to create a broader support network across the College.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field required.
• Minimum of 2 years advising or counseling experience preferred.
• Experience working with at-risk students and/or special populations.
• Experience in higher education, preferably with community colleges, preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and group support to students who may be at risk of dropping out or experiencing academic challenges.
• Assess students' academic and support needs and connect them with campus and community resources.
• Develop strategies that promote student persistence, retention, and completion.
• Collaborate with faculty, advisors, student services, and other campus partners to create a comprehensive network of support.
