- Position Type: Student Support Services/ Truancy Intervention Staff
- Receive and act on referrals from schools; conduct intake meetings and needs assessments to identify needs for referred students and families
- Provide direct support to students through academic counseling, mentoring, home visits, referrals, and consistent attendance monitoring
- Provide ongoing case management, progress monitoring, and follow-up for assigned caseloads
- Create individualized attendance improvement plans with clear, measurable goals and timelines, and implement effective truancy intervention strategies
- Conduct home visits to strengthen family engagement and support attendance improvement efforts
- Connect students and families to appropriate support services — including through IRIS — such as mental health resources, transportation, special education, and community agencies
- Conduct Individual Optional Education Plan (IOEP) meetings
- Collaborate with school social workers, counselors, administrators, truancy staff, court services, social service agencies, schools, and families to develop and implement student intervention plans
- Participate in MTSS, SST, IEP, and re-entry meetings, and attend other required meetings and program-related events
- Assist with court preparation, attend truancy hearings, and initiate court petitions for students and families as needed
- Maintain thorough, accurate case documentation and progress notes in digital case management systems
- Deliver regular updates to partner districts on student progress, data trends, and outcomes for program evaluation
- Support parent education workshops and preventive programming centered on attendance and family engagement
- Represent the organization at community outreach events as assigned by the Coordinator
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development
- Perform additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Background in social services or education
- Experience working with at-risk youth and families from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated experience with home visits, case management, and school- or community-based social services
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation to travel regularly to DeKalb County schools
- Must successfully pass a Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) fingerprint check
PREFERRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or a related human services field, in either community or educational settings
- Strong commitment to supporting at-risk youth and understanding effective student engagement strategies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in both individual and small-group settings, including the ability to navigate sensitive and difficult conversations
- Solid organizational and case management skills with attention to detail, including data collection, documentation, reporting, and proficiency in computer applications and digital documentation systems
- Effective time management and the ability to adjust to changing needs
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and restorative practices
- Familiarity with public assistance programs, behavioral health supports, and community resources
- Bilingual in Spanish (strongly preferred)
Reports to: Coordinator of School Services
Work Schedule: 35 hours per week; 12-month position
Compensation: $21–$24 an hour; IMRF; pension benefits; limited paid holidays and sick/personal time; EAP; Headspace; health insurance supplement
