Job summary

Cumberlands is seeking a dedicated advisor to support student success initiatives and provide guidance on registration, progress, and retention at the university. The role focuses on building actionable plans to improve persistence and graduation outcomes.

The ideal candidate will bring strong communication skills and experience in student services, collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance advisement and program outcomes.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or 18 hours of graduate work completed plus at least 2 years of related experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; understanding of college programs and procedures for advisement, registration, and financial aid is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Student Success Coordinators to facilitate student success programs.
• Advise students and assist with course registration, academic progress, and overall student success.
• Establish plans of action to address negative attrition/retention patterns for targeted student populations.
• Prepare and present retention updates and reports for the assigned student population.
• Identify and develop student success indicators for monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on academic progress, persistence, and graduation rates.
• Maintain advising data and contact students at risk of withdrawing or failing.
• Provide individual and group Student Success Skills sessions/workshops as needed.
• Communicate with students regularly to facilitate retention activities via in-person, telephone, mail, virtual meetings, and/or email.
• Collaborate with other campus departments to support student success.
• Publicize and disseminate student support materials to students.
• Participate in departmental, campus, and college initiatives related to retention and student success, including outreach events.
• Build awareness of current trends and best practices in retention and student success and integrate into campus programs.
• Coordinate assessment of all program areas of responsibility.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Candidates must have the character and personality to relate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community. Applicants must have a master's degree (or at least 18 hours of graduate work completed) and at least 2 years of experience in student advising, recruitment, retention, or other related student services areas.
