Job summary

Commonpoint seeks a Student Success and Persistence Coordinator to support high school and college readiness for urban youth. The role involves direct postsecondary advising, family engagement, and collaboration with schools and college staff to promote college access and persistence.

Responsibilities include workshops, outreach, college fairs, and assisting students with FAFSA, financial aid, and admissions. Evening work and travel to multiple sites are required as part of the position.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, school counseling or related field; bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • At least three years of experience with urban adolescents and related services.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with urban youth and families.
  • Experience developing and delivering workshops or seminars.
  • Strong organization, teamwork, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to strength-based/youth development approach.
  • Experience collaborating with college personnel and student services.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to multiple sites to provide postsecondary support and advisement.
  • Offer college readiness activities to a broad student population.
  • Participate in regular meetings with school-based and agency staff.
  • Develop activities highlighting college exploration and planning.
  • Guide students to create clear postgraduate plans.
  • Provide individual and group college advising.
  • Coordinate college fairs, tours, and related events.
  • Share information on financial aid, FAFSA, scholarships, and programs like SEEK/HEOP.
  • Assist families with college choice, exploration, and applications.
  • Engage families through workshops on financial aid and college processes.
  • Maintain student contact information and provide family orientation.
  • Plan alumni outreach with school leadership and support transitions to college life.
  • Collaborate with college admission offices to strengthen ties.
