Job summary

Big Sandy Community and Technical College invites applications for a Student Success Coach (Academic Advisor II) funded by the CARES grant. The coach delivers personalized advising, coaching, and proactive support to help students reach their educational and career goals.

This on-site role engages with students early, assists with course selection and progression, and connects them with tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and other campus resources to promote retention and completion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
• Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising or student services.
• Experience working with community college students, including non-traditional or underrepresented populations, preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
• Proficiency in student information systems (SIS) and FERPA compliance.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one advising and course planning to help students align with goals.
• Assist with course registration and transfer prerequisites.
• Conduct degree audits and monitor progress toward graduation.
• Support student retention through proactive interventions.
• Develop personalized success plans with regular follow-up.
• Lead new student orientations and outreach to at-risk students.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to connect students to campus resources.
• Maintain accurate records of advising sessions and outcomes.
