Job summary

Henderson Community College is seeking a Student Support Specialist I in the Financial Aid Department. The role helps students overcome barriers and navigate college processes to support retention and graduation.

The position acts as a front-line contact, providing welcoming, confidential assistance and connecting students with appropriate resources while coordinating with college staff and programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience is typical.
• Experience in higher education, student services, financial aid, or customer support is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide students with information and resources related to financial aid and student support services.
• Direct complex questions to appropriate staff while maintaining professional, confidential service.
• Assist with orientations, workshops, and programs for student engagement.
• Support data entry and maintenance of confidential student records with accuracy and discretion.
• Communicate with students via in-person, phone, email, and other channels to convey required actions and deadlines.
• Collaborate with Financial Aid and Student Affairs staff to help students navigate college services.
