Job summary

San Diego State University is seeking a General Advisor and Retention Specialist to support on-campus residential students with academic planning, degree progress, and holistic advising. Under supervision, you will develop programs to promote scholarship, leadership, and campus engagement, collaborate with colleges, and guide students through probation and academic challenges.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible role with campus-based responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of FERPA and confidential student records.
• Experience providing academic advising and mentoring to residential students.
• Ability to develop and implement student success programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and group academic and holistic advising to residential students.
• Identify and support students facing academic challenges, including probation scenarios.
• Develop programs and workshops to support academic success and engagement.
• Collaborate with colleges and campus partners to connect students with resources and opportunities.
• Support advising technology, records, assessment, and peer advisor training.
