Job summary

University of Connecticut Waterbury seeks an Academic Advisor 1 to guide undergraduates in choosing courses, majors, and progression toward degree requirements. You will collaborate across campuses to enhance student success and serve as a resource for faculty, staff, and students in advising and policy matters.

You will support the Freshman Year Experience program and contribute to scheduling, orientation, and recruitment efforts while participating in campus committees as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 3 years advising experience in a higher education setting.
• Master's degree with 1 year advising experience in a higher education setting.
• Experience counseling low-income, first-generation, or minority students in an educational setting.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Advise students in personalized curriculum decisions including courses, scheduling, major/minor changes, waivers, and related matters.
• Provide support services and course advising for UConn Waterbury undergraduate students.
• Create plans of study to support educational needs, career goals, and professional development.
• Audit student records to determine progress toward graduation eligibility.
• Review and advocate for students regarding probation, dismissal, and financial aid appeals.
• Serve as an instructor for a First Year Experience (FYE) course.
• Refer students to Career Services, Tutoring, Disability Center, Counseling and Mental Health Services.
• Assist in scheduling and registration activities, orientation programs, and other activities as assigned.
• Serve as a resource for students, faculty, parents and guardians, and prepare presentation materials for events.
