You will collaborate with advising offices across campuses to promote student success and act as an on-site resource for faculty, staff, and students.

The role may include weekend/evening hours and requires effective communication and the ability to coordinate with multiple departments to deliver engaging

Qualifikationen

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years advising experience in a higher education setting.
  • Master’s degree plus 1 year advising experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience counseling low-income, first-generation, or minority students in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

JOB SUMMARY

The Academic Advisor 1 will work under the direction of the Director of Student Services, UConn Waterbury, and will advise students about academic programs, plans of study, and/or policies, as well as co-curricular opportunities and extracurricular engagement. This position collaborates with other advising and student-centered offices across all UConn campuses to implement efforts supporting student success, serve as an on-site resource person to faculty, staff, and students, and work as part of a dynamic team advising undergraduates with personalized curriculum decisions. This position additionally supports UConn Waterbury’s Freshman Year Experience (FYE) program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Advise students in personalized curriculum decisions including the appropriate choice of courses, scheduling of courses, selection or change of major or minor, waiver of requirements/deadlines, and related matters.
  • Provide support services and course advising for UConn Waterbury undergraduate students
  • Create plans of study to support students in their educational needs, career goals, and professional development.
  • Audit student records to determine progress toward meeting academic requirements and to assess eligibility to graduate.
  • Review and advocate for students regarding probation, dismissal, and financial aid appeals.
  • Serve as an instructor for a First Year Experience (FYE) course.
  • Refer students to other campus and university resources, which may include Career Services, Tutoring, the Center for Students with Disability, and Counseling and Mental Health Services.
  • Assist in planning and implementing scheduling and registration activities, orientation programs, and other activities, as assigned.
  • Serve as a resource for students, faculty, parents and guardians, and others with questions about programs or academic policies and collaborate with other departments and offices to create and deliver presentation materials at events.
  • Coordinate and implement programs to promote recruitment and retention of students.
  • Serve on campus and/or University committees.
  • Perform related work as required, which may include weekend and evening hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of post-bachelor's experience in advising students in a higher education setting ORMaster's degree in a related field and 1 year of related experience in advising students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience counseling low-income, first-generation, or minority students in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well to a variety of constituents, including students, faculty, and parents.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree with 2-3 years of experience in a position that includes advising, counseling, or coaching in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with teaching and/or conducting workshops in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, assess programmatic needs, and develop creative solutions.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The hiring range for this position is $60,416 to $63,000. An offer of employment, if made, will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s skill and experience, as determined by the University.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, permanent position. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
