Job summary

The University of New Hampshire (Manchester campus) seeks an experienced academic advisor to provide proactive individual and group advising to a diverse undergraduate population. You will lead study-away advising, coach students to overcome obstacles, and collaborate with campus partners to promote student success and persistence.

You will engage in reflective conversations, use appreciative advising, and stay current on advising best practices while contributing to institutional assessment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, or related discipline required.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Advise a diverse undergraduate student population, from all majors at UNH Manchester.
  • Engage students in reflective conversations about degree requirements and policies.
  • Use motivational interviewing and appreciative advising to help students set goals and take ownership of their academic journey.
  • Serve as Advising lead for UNH Manchester Study Away advising and collaborate with UNH Global.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to students identified through early alert systems and analytics, ensuring timely engagement and intervention.
  • Help students identify and resolve obstacles to academic success.
  • Be an academic coach for students below minimum academic expectations.
  • Support large-scale events like Open House and New Student Orientation.
  • Participate in cross-functional committees focused on student success.
  • Utilize dashboards and CRM systems to monitor advising activity and keep detailed FERPA-compliant records.
