Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg, Indiana seeks an Academic Advisor to deliver developmental advising for new and continuing students using a case-management approach.

You will guide students in setting personal and academic goals, interpreting placement scores, and navigating program curricula and registration. Collaboration with campus offices and a focus on inclusion support will be essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or related fields.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in academic advising, admissions, career counseling or related higher education area is required.
• Master's degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling psychology, or related discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide developmental academic advising for new and continuing students using a case management approach.
• Assist students in interpreting and understanding placement scores, program curriculum and pre-requisites, and developing basic skills to register for courses.
• Refer students to appropriate internal and external resources that foster student success.
• Maintain current knowledge of the institution’s academic programs, curriculum, practices and academic and student policies.
• Coordinate with other Student Affairs and Academic Affairs areas to ensure accuracy of advising materials distributed to students, faculty, and staff.
• Possess a working knowledge of student financial assistance programs.
• Manage academic advising caseload to promote retention and student success.
• Develop and maintain Academic Completion Plans.
• Monitor student progress through regular meetings and data collection.
• Maintain academic advising records in FERPA compliance.
• Engage in professional development opportunities and college-wide committees.
