Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital is seeking a Student Radiology Tech to join our radiology team. You will perform diagnostic imaging, educate patients, and support radiologists in a fast-paced, filmless PACS environment.

The role emphasizes high-quality imaging, patient comfort, and safe handling of equipment across diverse ages, from neonate to geriatric, with a varied work schedule.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Working on completion of a Radiologic Technology degree/diploma/associate.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine diagnostic imaging studies as needed; schedule may vary.
  • Explain tests to patients to relieve anxiety.
  • Maintain accurate patient positioning, labeling, and safeguarding.
  • Operate imaging equipment and ensure high-quality images.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area and report equipment issues.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and time-management in a busy radiology setting.
  • Provide patient education related to radiology procedures.

Harris Regional Hospital provides comprehensive diagnostic imaging and interventional services in comfortable, convenient surroundings. We are proud to offer a filmless environment, complete with a picture-achieving communication system (PACS). The PACS digitally stores and displays medical images allowing for immediate access to patient information and increased efficiency. Our radiologists are certified by the American Board of Radiology with extensive training and experience in all areas of technology. We offer our patients the latest technology in diagnostic testing while staying close to home.

How you'll contribute

A Student Radiology Tech who excels in this role:

  • He or she must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of anatomy. The technologist must demonstrate thorough knowledge and skill and understanding of image quality.
  • Must be able to communicate to patients the nature of the tests and relieve their anxiety.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of Radiographic Positioning, Radiographic Technique, Radiation Safety, Imaging Equipment, Infection Control and Quality Control techniques.
  • Presents a pleasant and helpful manner to patients, physicians, subordinates and other members of the department staff.
  • Assists in maintaining a work area free from hazards.
  • The student radiologic technologist must perform routine diagnostic imaging studies, as needed. Must vary work schedule.
  • The patient population ranges from neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. The student radiologic technologist must provide services to all patients, families, and physicians serving this population.
  • Ensures that patient examinations are performed in an accurate and timely manner; not to exceed 30 minutes. Provides accurate patient positioning, computer entries and filming.
  • Maintains an effective use of time, reports availability accordingly. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to assist others. Consistently displays team effort.
  • Applies knowledge to produce high quality diagnostic images with use of professional knowledge to meet or exceed department guidelines.
  • Maintains exam accuracy, i.e., minimum views, labeling, patient dose, positioning, patient history and shielding. Minimizes patient exposure. Maintains a safe working environment.
  • Maintains knowledge of equipment performance. Reports malfunctions to supervisor. Conveys to supervisor any problems related to supplies or equipment as well as information pertaining to the problem.
  • Demonstrates the ability to resolve problems. Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions when circumstances so warrant.
  • Demonstrates technical knowledge. Demonstrates the ability to provide patient education relating to diagnostic radiology procedures.
  • Learns and maintains knowledge of current imaging techniques. Identifies methods to improve efficiency and customer relations. Identifies methods to improve diagnostic quality.

What we're looking for

High school graduate or equivalent. Must be working on completion of a Bachelor's Degree, Diploma or Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology. Additional requirements include:

  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
