Job summary

Oakland County is seeking a part-time student employee to gain hands-on experience in an office setting. Work approximately 20 hours per week, on-site, performing clerical duties and using department software.

You’ll assist with mail, records, and data entry while learning from experienced staff. Eligible applicants are high school students 16+ enrolled in school, with good communication and basic computer skills, able to follow instructions.

Qualifications

  • Be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
  • Be enrolled in high school working on completion of diploma; OR enrolled in college or technical institute working on completion of degree; OR enrolled in a certificate program.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions; basic computer and word processing skills; ability to write legibly; effective communication with staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Index and file documents alphabetically or numerically.
  • Answer routine public inquiries with basic departmental knowledge.
  • Sort and distribute mail and materials.
  • Operate office machines (adding machines, calculators, scanner, copier).
  • Post data to records using a computer; use county software to complete tasks.
  • Assist in stocking storerooms and maintain orderly spaces.
