Job description

The Student Promotional Writer is part of the Marketing CreativeTeam and responsible for executing various copy projects, mainlyfocusing on stories and articles to support the Selah Yearbook, butcould also include emails, digital and print ads, booklets,posters, brochures, and other collateral in compliance with theuniversity’s brand standards. The Student Promotional Writer worksto creatively and strategically convey the message of theuniversity and the department with great attention to detail. Thisposition works closely with the full-time team of graphicdesigners, promotional writer(s) and project coordinator(s), withoversight from their Marketing Manager to ensure that the brandingand marketing is integrated within the goals for the clients theyserve. The Student Writer must be proficient in Microsoft word,have experience with AP format and strong spelling and grammarknowledge and understanding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Researches, writes, and edits a variety of marketing materials,specific to campus happenings based on news stories, events,athletic achievements and highlights as well as other pertinentcurrent events happening each school year.
  • Develops creative ideas and concepts using a proactive andstrategic approach, often in partnership with the team.
  • Takes initiative in identifying tone and voice of both theuniversity and in order to write clear, persuasive, originalcopy.
  • Displays strong attention to detail and proofreads copy tocheck spelling, grammar, and compliance with AP format and theLiberty University verbal brand and style guide.
  • Shows flexibility in amending, revising, or redevelopingcampaigns in response to feedback from the marketing manager,quality control team and/or marketing leadership.
  • Interacts with team and/or clients to identify solutions tochallenges and regarding feedback on communication projects.
  • Manages working on several projects at once, sometimes underpressure and often within tight deadlines.
  • Engages in continued learning through competitor research andprofessional development to strengthen writing skills and gainfamiliarity with marketing trends in higher education.
  • Support full time writers as needed while shadowing andgleaning information and knowledge from them.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Minimum Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, orrelated field.
  • Approximately zero - two years of related experience requiredor an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions and work underlimited supervision.
  • Must be able to work well with clients and co-workers andpresent a positive attitude while being courteous, detail-oriented,self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, and possessing strongorganizational skills.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Officeapplications.
  • Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Ambition togrow and improve. Ability to think creatively and critically andproblem solve efficiently. Must possess ability to multi-task andwork in a fast-paced environment.

Starting at $12.77

Student employees are paid at least the current Virginia minimumwage per hour. Pay may vary by position and department based on jobresponsibilities, required skills, available funding, and marketconditions.
