Job description

Tunista Construction LLC is a subsidiary of the Calista Brice family, providing heavy civil contracting services throughout Washington State. The company works with major government agencies and private clients on design‑build and bid‑build projects, maintaining a strong reputation for safety, quality, and results‑focused execution.

Position Summary

The Student Project Engineer will support Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and Project Engineers by managing project documentation and administrative functions. The role is based on field sites and the main office in Tacoma, WA, and may lead to a full‑time summer or entry‑level Project Engineer position.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the company’s Core Values and Mission Statement for Safety and Behavior.
  • Maintain punctuality and an agreed upon work schedule.
  • Collect timecards and equipment usage reports.
  • Assist the Superintendent with daily project reports.
  • Enter time and equipment data into Heavy Job software; maintain quantities and inform the Superintendent of all costs and quantities.
  • Review and calculate quantities upon receipt of pay estimates.
  • Help implement the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
  • Keep the field office organized.
  • Maintain job diaries, photographs, and video logs.
  • Draft route correspondence as needed.
  • Document changes in work and conditions for the Superintendent, Project Manager, and Corporate Office.
  • Assist with project health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Help update the project schedule.
  • Enter job costing and additional data as required.
  • Work constantly in a safe manner with alertness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a degree program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Surveying, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Word and Excel).
  • Valid state driver’s license and compliance with the company’s Driving Policy.
  • Clear background and drug screening results.
Work Environment

The role involves typical construction site conditions, with occasional weekend or evening work. Professional construction attire and safety footwear are required; additional PPE will be provided.
