Job summary

The University of Kansas Natural History Museum seeks a friendly and organized university student to serve as Student Outreach & Events Assistant. This role reports to the Outreach & Engagement Coordinator and indirectly to the Associate Director of Informal Science Education.

The Student O&E Assistant helps deliver themed programs to groups and helps plan and facilitate public events like Discovery Days and Pop Up Science programs.

Qualifications

• Public speaking to groups of varying sizes with ease.
• Interact with people of all ages, especially children, with enthusiasm.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Available up to 10 hours per week with some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate hands-on activities and manage groups of visitors, setting up materials and ensuring safety.
• Generate new and creative ideas for programs and events.
• Communicate with the Outreach & Engagement Coordinator about program needs and scheduling.
• Assist with observation and documentation of event participation and feedback.
• Represent the museum in a friendly and professional manner.
