Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Student Outreach and Support Graduate Assistant to provide case management, threat assessment and crisis services for students on campus.

Responsibilities include supporting students with mental health, safety concerns, and connecting them with campus and community resources, while maintaining confidential records. This on‑campus role involves 20 hours weekly with daytime scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student (master’s level preferred) taking at least 9 hours.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of crisis management, mental health, and student resources.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of discretion and uphold privacy and confidentiality of student records.

  • Provide comprehensive referral services to students for on campus and community services.
  • Assist in the support of student victims and survivors of crimes, abuse, theft, assaults or other types of safety concerns.
  • Assist with department and student outreach to enhance partnerships within the University.
  • Work 1:1 with students through walk‑in appointments and incoming calls or emails.
  • Manage and update case records and documentation.

Job Details:

Purpose Contribute and provide case management, threat assessment, and crisis services for undergraduate and graduate students to ensure a comprehensive and holistic approach to student emergencies, critical incidents on campus, student success, and retention. Address academic, financial, residential, student development, mental health, wellness, safety, and behavioral issues with students in need. Hours to be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

Qualification for in-state tuition rates Comprehensive insurance benefits package (September – May) Hands‑on work in student personnel field, providing excellent work experience

Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student (master’s level preferred) taking at least 9 hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of crisis management, mental health, and student resources.
  • Experience working with sensitive student populations.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of discretion and uphold privacy and confidentiality of student records.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and proven organizational skills.
  • Experience with Macintosh computer hardware and software or the ability to learn applications quickly (i.e. Microsoft office suite products).
  • Other experience/skills as relevant to specific position responsibilities.

Salary $19.33

Work Shift Hours to be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
