College of Lake County is seeking a Student Organization Outreach & Program Coordinator to develop and oversee co-curricular activities, multicultural programs, and leadership opportunities for students. Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Student Activities and Inclusion, the Student Organizational and Program Coordinator is responsible for facilitation of co-curricular programs, multicultural competence, student leadership opportunities, and an overall campus climate that fosters student development. The coordinator will develop and facilitate events, workshops and seminars that complement classroom instruction and help students build leadership and life skills (e.g., diversity, budget management, conflict resolution, etc.). This position will also assist in framing the diversity imperative in academic and educational terms to engage faculty and staff to move IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) conversations to the center of institutional concerns to compliment the co-curricular experience to the work faculty are doing to engage students.
Project and Process Management - 50% Coordinate welcoming events/meet-and-greet sessions for new and continuing students. Manage student clubs and organizations. Facilitate and oversee non-multicultural student clubs and organizations. Facilitate the partnership between Student Activities and Inclusion and classroom instruction through intentional co-curricular programming that supports course learning outcomes. Develop goals and strategies for reaching and maintaining faculty involvement in co-curricular partnerships. Support other Student Activities and Inclusion programs. Develop assessment techniques to determine program success; track participant progress and analyze results to recommend program improvements. Student/Customer Service - 30% Serve as a key liaison/contact for student club and organization leaders. Assist in the development of club constitutions and by-laws, budgets, and organizational meetings. Facilitate club leader trainings, host workshops, and coordinate monthly Club Council meetings for all student clubs and organizations to review college policies and procedures. Collaborate with campus stakeholders to develop an IDEA manual and related program resources available during the academic year. Other - 20% Create and implement an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) workshop and training catalog for students, applicable to the Division of Student Affairs and related campus initiatives. Host workshops, trainings, and retreats that serve as cross-functional opportunities with academic courses and co-curricular programming, producing direct learning outcomes for students. Promote IDEA workshops and trainings through cross-functional, student-focused teams or committees. Serve as the liaison for incident reports involving clubs/organizations and related to bias through the Behavioral Intervention Team. Research best practices in services for IDEA work to encourage program involvement. Develop and facilitate multicultural programming activities through the Office of Student Activities and Inclusion to foster cultural awareness and diversity.
Bachelor’s degree Two years of prior work experience in student affairs, student life programming, or a related field in a higher education setting Demonstrated sensitivity and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students Knowledge and understanding of the needs of first-generation and low-income college students Working knowledge of the entire Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook Proven experience collaborating with other departments Excellent communication and organizational skills; essential for this highly visible position with significant public, student, agent, and internal contact with faculty and staff
Master’s degree Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, with emphasis on bilingual communication in Spanish and English Working knowledge of multicultural programming and leadership development Proven experience in the development and implementation of supportive services or student retention programs for underrepresented students in post-secondary education settings or related diversity program areas Bilingual in Spanish and English
